Tufting automation.
Tufting equipment for classic tufted mattress and topper construction.
The tufting category
What tufting does.
Tufting is the classic construction that pulls the top and bottom of a mattress together at regular points, compressing the fill and anchoring it with a button, tape, or knot so it cannot shift over time. It produces the dimpled, upholstered surface of a traditional tufted mattress, and it is as much a structural anchoring step as a decorative one.
The equipment ranges from tufting machines that drive the tuft and set the anchor mechanically to stations that assist an operator through a hand guided tufting pattern. They differ by the tuft pattern and spacing they produce, the mattress thickness they can pull through, and the anchor type, whether button, tape tuft, or knot, the finished product calls for.
Tufting is a specialty construction step applied to tufted product lines rather than to every mattress, so it is added where a plant builds that traditional style. Sizing tufting equipment means matching the tuft pattern and anchor type to the product, the mattress thickness and fill the machine must compress and pull through, and the volume of tufted product the station needs to support.
